Forever written in the annals of history,<\/p>\n
They silently moved thru strife;<\/p>\n
Shadows really, each within a story,<\/p>\n
Each a part of life.<\/p>\n
Warriors fighting for their own reasons,<\/p>\n
Men of age and many just a lad;<\/p>\n
Some struggling for only a season,<\/p>\n
Others giving all they had.<\/p>\n
I often wonder, in my limited sight,<\/p>\n
From fear of the gun and the knife;<\/p>\n
How would I have handled the fight,<\/p>\n
When another sought to take my life?<\/p>\n
Thanks to those whom made that choice,<\/p>\n
To stand for the small and the weak;<\/p>\n
Thanks is all that I can voice,<\/p>\n
As words enough I cannot speak.<\/p>\n
They took the bullet, they took the blade,<\/p>\n
And stood on hallowed ground;<\/p>\n
Their names and faces will not, should not, ever fade,<\/p>\n
Each time the haunting bugles sound.<\/p>\n
Let us pray, not for their souls, but for ours,<\/p>\n
As we are left looking heaven-ward;<\/p>\n
It is we that are left with the wounds and scars,<\/p>\n
For it they that found the Eternal reward.<\/p>\n
To our soldiers, we lift our voice of gratitude,<\/p>\n
To our brave and to our strong;<\/p>\n
We will never forget the bitter-sweet interlude<\/p>\n
